Mentorship & Strategic Consulting
The transition from military service to civilian life can feel like stepping into unfamiliar terrain after years of moving confidently with a map in hand. The rhythms change, the structure fades, and even the language feels different. It’s easy to wonder where the next anchor point will appear. That’s where mentorship matters most: not as a checklist or a quick career fix, but as a steady hand on the compass while you chart a new course.
After 26 years as an infantry officer, I know what that uncertainty feels like. My career led me from operational planning and leading Soldiers to teaching strategy at the U.S. Army War College, where I helped senior leaders think critically about the complexity of modern warfare. Those years shaped how I view leadership - anchored in humility, forged through decision, and strengthened by reflection.
When I hung up the uniform, my mission didn’t end; it simply evolved. At the University of Texas at Austin, I found a new way to contribute to national security by supporting groundbreaking research and collaborating with some of the most innovative minds in the country. That work reconnected me to purpose and kept me close to the next generation through the ROTC programs and ongoing mentorship.
For me, mentorship isn’t about filling vacancies or finding the fastest route to a civilian title. It’s about walking alongside someone at a crucial crossroads, asking the hard questions about purpose and possibility, and helping them turn uncertainty into strength. Transition is not the end of a career; it’s the next campaign emerging as an opportunity to apply all you’ve learned in service of something new.
Barrel Strength Leadership was built from that conviction: that resilience, reflection, and steady guidance can help any leader navigate the terrain ahead with clarity and confidence.
