This climactic battle for the final island battle before an anticipated invasion of mainland Japan involved over 60,000 Soldiers and Marines. Explore the tenacity of the Japanese forces, the strategic, operational, and tactical actions leading up to and on the island. Explore how different techniques and tactics lead to different outcomes in the chaos of battle.

Operation Husky - Sicily

Operation Husky, the invasion of Sicily, serviced as the full-dress rehearsal for the Normandy invasion. The island has few memorials, but the lessons learned here were critical to the successes in France. This multi-day visit allows exploration of experimentation, the difficulties of developing multinational organizations, and how critical and creative thinking leads to the overall success of this key battle in the Mediterranean.

The Italian Campaign

The strategic compromise - the U.K advocated for continued attacks on the "soft underbelly of Europe" in an attempt to weaken Axis forces, while the U.S. pushed for an immediate invasion of France. This experience allows your team to explore the complexities of coalition, multinational operations with competing strategic priorities. The operations included great friction, tough terrain, and the eventual collapse of the Italian government. This starts in Rome, travels to the southern most parts of "the boot", and up the western coast.
